Roma Day Four!

Our Final day in Rome was ours to do whatever our hearts desired. We decided that we desired to go to Mass in St. Peters Basilica and wait to see the pope to bless the masses at noon. Well we could into get on the shuttle to get to the Vatican because it was full so we were late. So late in fact that Kylee and Ashley and I jut ended up sitting in the square and talking about religion. It ended up being a great time. It is so weird here because Sundays never seem like Sundays. Everyday just feels the same all the time. Its odd. After the sun started bakin us like a toasted cheeser we headed back to change into comfy tourist clothes and headed out to tackle Roma solo. First on the list was the Spanish Steps. Did we get there on time you ask? No it took us like three hours once again to get there because we once again kept missing our shuttle and we were really slow getting out of the hotel. The Spanish steps were very cool, more like a giant staircase but pretty non e the less. The real reason most people go the Spanish steps is for the shopping. It was great. Lots of beautiful Designer shops. Valentino, Prada, Dolce, Fendi, Ferragamo, Gucci, gangs all there! IT was fun to window shop and totally great to look at fancy things we could not afford……Sigh. We broke up with half the group and went our separate ways for a few hours before we met back up for Dinner. The Forum, a literal antiquities graveyard had been on our list for like three days. So we finally we made it to the forum and after we paid them our right arm Kylee and I went to explore. It was so great. Everything was really big. I sometimes feel like everyone used to be like 8 feet tall because everything seems to have been ginormous. Or I think maybe they all suffered from short mans disease and therefore everything needed to be bigger and better….not sure which. Anyway we took some great photos. It is so weird that things you learn about…thousands of pounds of gorgeous marble is just laying around all over the ground like trash. I have never seen so many capitols and columns just hanging out. It was so weird to see a marble cornice acting as a curb for a flower garden. We took some really great photos and saw a beautiful house with a natural spring that runs right through the middle. It was gorgeous. The juxtaposition of the soft, wet, bright, green, moss curling around the hard, clean, Carrara marble. After our mad dash of like an hour in the forum we headed on over to Campe De Fiore for dinner. It was a really cool environment. There are musicians that sit in the corners of this giant square and they all play their music and sort of battle it out while you eat right in front of them, its great. Sort of Like Battle of the Bands Italian style and instead of Fender Guitars there are Accordions and tambourines. We had Salad for the first time in what felt like forever. I never thought I would miss my veggies but I did! For desert we went to the Piazza Navona. It was great The whole Piazza was crowded with artists and musicians and living art. I came across some really good Sepia toned Watercolors .I bought three and I love them. So cheap and so pretty. I have decided that that is the best way to bring your trip home with you. The best souvenir you could ever ask for. A constant reminder of what it was like. After I purchased my super awesome art we ran into Susie our fabulous professor who took us down to the mouth of truth. It was closed so we didn’t get to do it but we did get to take a picture. Very creepy looking not going to lie. After the mad taxi ride home, we have packed our things and are ready to go to Florence in the morning!
