London Day Eleven

Well today was our free day to go to bath if we wanted. I got up and got ready because we said we were leaving early and we didn’t because for some reason our little group seems to do everything on a half hour to hour behind time frame. Awesome. We finally got on our way and on the train to bath. We were so excited. Bath is a town where there have been roman baths for centuries. They are heated and supplied by the natural springs there. There are warm baths, hot baths, cold baths and tepid baths. All in beautiful Roman architecture. Bath is also home to the ever so fabulous Jane Austen including the Jane Austen Centre.

When we finally arrived after what seemed like the longest train ride ever, we stepped on to the platform and guess what? It is like torrential down pour. Uh Huh. That’s what I was so hoping for…not. Then the miracle happened as we made our way through the train station and exited, by the time we had gotten to the outside it had completely stopped and we were in the midst of a gloriously sunny day. Amazing. We raced up the street to the roman baths only to be stopped dead in our tracks by the most heavenly smell….as I followed my nose to the sweet smell of a size bigger pants, I landed in a pasty shop with hot fresh Pasty’s! Oh My Lanta…..SOOOOO GOOD! I purchased a little baby filled with the seductive combination of bacon, leek, potato, onion, peppers, and spices. Heaven on earth, mother of pearl it was soo good. The crust so flakey, the filling was beautifully married together and my mouth could not stop the lust. DIVINE!

After my little moment we went into the baths. It was a very interesting experience. They have dug down to the foundation in parts and you can see where a lot of the original layers were put in. The water is still warm and still bubbly due to the springs that supply it. Although currently the water is green from the algae in it, in the time of its original use it would have been clear and crystal. I can’t imagine how much fun it would be to go to a place where you just circulate between temperature baths while chatting with your friends and eating delicious foods…even though they did not have Pasty’s back then. Bummer.

After the baths we headed up to the Fashion Museum. This was really cool. All sorts of fashion items from the past two hundred years or so. Including the dress that J.Lo wore…the infamous green one. We saw all sorts of trends through out time and watched them resurface. The best part was a display on the Supremes. There were a bunch of really great costumes they wore including shoes and jewelry…oh how I love the jewelry…especially in the 60’s hello BLING! Funniest part though was Julia my dear sweet little sheltered girl had never even heard of the Supremes….tisk tisk. No worries we educated her.

We decided it was time to pay homage to Jane. So we went to the Jane Austen Centre. It was really cool There were two gentlemen dressed in period clothes standing out front. We got pics with them true to tourist form and I bought some things for my fam in the gift shop…after a hard day of touring and shopping every girl needs a Jane Austen Tea Party. We went up to the Third floor of the sweet little building and had tea in a beautiful room. I had Redbush Tea and Crumpets with clotted cream and Honey. It was so much fun. I love to be girly. Its awesome. We had such a great little experience and it was great to have a little fanciness in our lives! I love being fancy…it is my dream to be fancy. Sigh.

Anyway next we ran, and I mean ran to the train station with 30 sec. to spare to get on the train back home. We waited for what seemed like an eternity and made it home just in time to go pee and head out the door. Kylee and Becca and Mallory, and Susie, and terry and I went to Peter Pan in Hyde Park. Its been 100 years since it has been in London. We were lucky enough to go. It was great. It was a theater in the round and there was a big white circular tent around everything that they projected images on. So when they flew it looked like they really were. It was soo cool. Especially the Crocodile so neat! We had a blast and to top off our totally awesome day we went to Planet Hollywood and had fab food while we listened to some great tunes and chatted with all the girls. Sometimes you just don’t get days like this, and sometimes it is some of the best times of your life.
