London Day Five

Today we went to Cambridge. We took forever to get there but once we did I think i fell slightly in live with it. The ambiance is that of exactly what you would wish your college campus and life to look like. The town is very quaint and very pretty. lots of English charm and appeal. We started off by recognizing that there is awesome shopping. Being a college town I was not surprised to find things right up my alley as far as style and price. We had a tour of all the great little churches in town and walked around the colleges. Including king's college chapel. We learned that Henry the 7th started it and Henry the 8th finished it. It was to be the biggest college in the world and was for a bit. The thing that is interesting about Cambridge university is that the whole university has been broken up into separate colleges. the colleges were established individually by different people with different goals for the college they opened. Many were opened by woman and then not actually accepted woman as collegiate for hundreds of years later...still the idea was there. What forward thinkers we are!The best part of kings College Chapel was the Fan vaulting in the cathedral. It was very cool looking. It is pretty mind blowing to think of how they get things to be so high and so delicate looking from such rough materials. after we toured the college we went to the Museum and got to see some of the finest collections of English art. I was very impressed. We saw Turners and even some Flemish art. We finished off our tour of Cambridge by going punting. Punting is like going on a gondola ride in Venice but in Cambridge and with hunky college boys being the punt chauffeurs. Yeah lets just say it was really fun. We saw one of the bridges they use in the Harry potter movies and the field where they learn quidditch for the first time. We also ran into some idiots who have never punted before and we completely ridiculous. ha ha. the best part was our Chauffeur was named Orlando and he had a very cute little grin. He was a bit dishy and I know some of the single ladies in our boat were not hating that. After our little boat ride....oh I was going to say that the Cam river we were on and it is called the city od Cambridge because there is a bridge to get over the river and for hundreds of years it was the only bridge and the town became known as Cambridge. We Walked back through the town and back to the train station and barley train in time to get back to London. When we arrived at Kings Cross Station we just happened to be in a very cool place and see something very cool...I am not going to tell you what it is though...you will have to look at the photos! Until Tomorrow!
